Overview/General Information

Residents of New Market are required to pay taxes to the Town and to Shenandoah County because of the difference in services each locality provides.  A large percentage of your County tax dollars goes towards the school system.  The taxes you pay to the Town of New Market go towards such services as: around the clock police protection, streetlights, sidewalk maintenance and repair, snow removal, tourism and economic development, maintenance of the Community Park and Rebel Park, and support of non-profit organizations in town such as the New Market Fire and Rescue Department and the New Market Area Library.

If you should have received a tax bill and have not, please contact the Town Office to determine if there is an assessment issue or a mailing issue.  If you receive a tax bill in error, please contact the Shenandoah County Commissioner of Revenue Office at (540) 459-6170.  The Commissioner of Revenue prepares our tax information so their office should be contacted first for any errors in billing.  In the event that you have been taxed improperly, their office will make an adjustment and forward the information to the Town Treasurer’s office where corrections will be made.
