How much is the decal fee?
The decal fee will remain unchanged at $25.00 for motor vehicles, trailers and semi trailers. Motorcycles are assessed at $15.00

How do I know if I will be assessed the fee?
The Town of New Market receives its information through the Shenandoah County Commissioner of the Revenue's Office and the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles. When you register your vehicle with the DMV you inform them of where the vehicle is garaged/stored, that information is then sent to the Shenandoah County Commissioner of the Revenue's Office who in turn submits information to us prior to the distribution of taxes.

How does the Town know when my car was garaged in the Town?
New Market uses January 1st as the effective date. If your vehicle was stored in the Town of New Market, per DMV and Commissioner of the Revenue's information, as of January 1st of a given calendar year you will be assessed the fee.

What if I move?
It is imperative when you move in or out of New Market that you contact
1.) The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles and the Shenandoah County Commissioner of the Revenue's Office (540) 459-6170 to inform them of your move.
2.) Inform the Town of New Market by calling (540) 740-3432.
