- What if I live just outside the
Town - is trash picked up for me?
No, only New Market residents receive this service.
Those living outside the Town limits, in Shenandoah
County, must provide for their own trash removal.
A drop off site is located on Rte 11 North between
the Towns of New Market and Mt. Jackson near the
VDOT substation.

- What types of trash are removed
by the Town's contractor?
Only household trash. Industrial trash or large
items such as appliances and furniture will need
to be removed by you. The Town does offer a large
item pick up free of charge twice a year during
the spring and fall. Please refer to the Town newsletter
or call our office for information regarding that
service.

- Are Dumpsters included in my trash
removal?
No, the Town provides curbside trash pick-up only.
If you are a business or high-density residential
unit that produces an exorbitant amount of trash
you will need to privately contract for a dumpster
to be provided and emptied regularly.

- How do I establish water/sewer
service for an existing location?
We require people to come to the Town Office to
establish service, as there are forms which require
signatures. In addition, there is a $15.00 connection
fee which a customer may choose to pay during his/her
office visit, or have charged to his/her first bill.

- Are septic systems allowed in the
Town of New Market?
No new septic systems can be installed in the Town.
Existing septic systems are allowed to continue
in operation until which time they are in need of
repair or replacing. At that time the property
owner is required to connect to the sanitary sewer.

- How do I establish water/sewer
service for new construction?
We require that people come to the Town Office to
establish service. We have forms for both Water
and Sewer Connection requests. The homeowner or
the general contractor may complete these forms.
The cost to make a connection to the Town's water/sewer
service is $6000.00 for water and $9000.00, for
sewer for in-town connections and $9000.00 for water
and $12,000 for sewer for out-of-town water/sewer
connections. Out-of-town connections must be pre-approved
by the Town Council. The cost to make a connection
to the Town's sewer service is the same as a Water
Connection, stated above. In addition, if there
is no meter setup on the premises, a fee of $515.04
is charged.

- How do I get a watering meter?
Watering meters are available at a homeowner's request.
One must come to the Town Office at 9418 John Sevier
Rd., and complete a service request. The cost of
the setup and meter is $515.04, which is payable
at the time of the request. It is the responsibility
of a plumber to install the meter. However, we will
do an inspection before the water connection is
closed. It is the responsibility of the homeowner
to notify the Town if service to this meter is to
be disconnected (like during the winter) or reconnected.
If one disconnects service for a period of time,
such as winter, a $15.00 reconnect fee will be charged
when the account is reactivated.
