Every year during the first week of September the freshman class from the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) visit the New Market Battlefield State Historical Park for a day long orientation to the 1864 battle in which the VMI Cadet Corps so prominently figured. Cadets march down Congress Street at 2:00 p.m.
