The Historic Overlay District Review Board (HODRB) reviews projects within the Historic Overlay District (HOD) relating to physical changes of buildings and other structures and offer non-binding recommendations.  Ordinary maintenance and paint color are exempted from review.  The HODRB consists of seven members; three residents of the Town, three owners of property located within the HOD, and one Town staff member.  The Board has no set meeting schedule, rather meeting as needed.

The Town of New Market currently has an opening on the Historic Overlay District Review Board. The Historic Overlay District Review Board (HODRB) is made up of seven members. The Board is appointed by Town Council to 3 year terms. The Board is in charge of reviewing all plans that will change the exterior appearance of buildings located within the Historic Overlay District. Specifically, the Board is to encourage all construction projects to be compatible with the Town’s historic character and to promote the historic areas for the education, pleasure and welfare of the citizens of the town as well as tourists. While similar, the Board is not charged with architectural review regulations that are enforceable as in other communities. The Historic Overlay District Review Board meets only on an “as needed” basis.

To apply to be on the HODRB, you may pick up an application at the Town Office or click on the link below to download the application.  Applications should be returned to the Town Office.
