TRAFFIC ALERT-VDOT Bridge Project

VDOT will begin a bridge rehabilitation project on Interstate 81 near the Shenandoah Caverns exit (Exit 269), focusing specifically on the Shenandoah River bridge. As part of this effort, southbound I-81 will be reduced to a single lane beginning Sunday evening, May 4, 2025, and continuing through Tuesday evening, May 6, 2025 — a continuous closure lasting approximately 72 hours. 

The following week, they will work on the other lane beginning on Sunday evening, May 10, 2025, and continuing through Tuesday evening, May 13, 2025-a continuous closure lasting approximately 72 hours.

Significant delays are anticipated, with increased traffic volumes expected along Route 11 through New Market as vehicles, especially commercial traffic, divert from I-81.
